The Pledge to Give

Many of us try to do something for charity; whether it’s 10% of our income, voluntary work or corporate donations, we do what we can. However, some of us are able to give just that little bit more… The Giving Pledge is a way that some- about 115 at the moment- have decided to commit to philanthropy. Originally formed in 2010 by Warren Buffett, together with Bill and Melinda Gates, the Giving Pledge invites the world’s wealthiest individuals to commit to giving 50% or more of their wealth to philanthropy or charitable causes, either during their lifetime or in their will. This pledge is specifically focused on billionaires or those who would be billionaires if not for their giving. The Giving Pledge was ‘inspired by the example set by millions of people who give generously (and often at great personal sacrifice) to make the world a better place.’ Signatories of the Giving Pledge include Sir Richard Branson, Lord Ashcroft, and Mark Zuckerberg, amongst many others.
